Private AI for Utah law firms

The AMW ai Vault is a private AI assistant that runs inside your firm's office on its own network, with no internet connection and no remote access, not even for AMW ai. It finds, summarizes and drafts from the firm's own files, and Alex installs and services it in person from Draper.

Can a Utah law firm use AI with client files?

Rule 1.6 of the Utah Rules of Professional Conduct is the starting point. In Ethics Advisory Opinion 21-01, the Utah State Bar's Ethics Advisory Opinion Committee puts the default plainly: “all information relating to the representation of a client is confidential.”

The Bar's own article on AI, Using ChatGPT in Our Practices: Ethical Considerations, applies that rule to public AI tools: under Rule 1.6, lawyers must not reveal information related to the representation of a client, and “This includes revealing information to AI.” Its advice is to share with public AI only what you would share with anyone else, to tell clients you would like to use AI and let them decide, and to treat AI results “like a draft from a law clerk.”

The AMW ai Vault changes where the work happens: client files are read on a machine in your office and are not sent to the cloud or to AMW ai. Your firm still decides what to tell clients and checks the work. This page is general information, not legal advice.

What it does in a law office

  • Finds the clause. Ask for the clause, date or figure you need across every file, and see the page it came from.
  • Summaries with page citations. The key points of a long agreement or file, each with the page it came from, one click away.
  • Compares versions. Every change between the draft you sent and the one that came back, money and dates first.
  • Watches deadlines. It reads contracts and reminds you before dates come due (AMW ai Vault Plus and above).
  • Meeting notes. Record a meeting or dictate a note; who said what and what to do next are written up and filed.
  • Scans, searchable. Scan a stack of paper; every page becomes a document you can search, named and filed.

How the privacy works, in plain words

  • No internet connection. It sits on your office network and connects to nothing outside it.
  • No remote access. No one can log in from outside the office, including AMW ai.
  • Updates by hand. Alex brings each update to your office, and the Vault accepts only software signed by AMW ai.
  • Encrypted drives. They unlock only inside that machine; taken out, they are unreadable.
  • Each person signs in. Everyone can keep a private folder that no one else in the firm can see or search.

How the privacy works, in detail.

You own the machine

You buy the AMW ai Vault, with its professional NVIDIA graphics card, and own it outright, a firm asset. One flat plan covers the software and in person service for the whole office, with no charge per person or per question. Answers can come back in about 4 seconds on the AMW ai Vault Ultra (RTX PRO 6000, 96 GB).

Questions

Does the AMW ai Vault send client files outside the firm?

No. It has no internet connection and no remote access, including from AMW ai. Client files are read, searched and answered on the machine in your office.

Do we still need to check its work?

Yes. Treat its answers and drafts as you would a draft from a law clerk. Every answer from your documents shows the page it came from, so checking is quick.

How many people at the firm can use it?

Everyone in the office can sign in, with no charge per person. It answers questions in the order they are asked, and bigger Vaults answer faster.

Who installs and services it?

Alex, the founder of AMW ai, installs it at your office, shows your team how to use it and comes back for four scheduled visits a year. We serve firms within about an hour of Draper.
